San Quentin
San Quentin xWays Slot Review (Nolimit City) – Win Up to 150,000x!
Nolimit’s first game of 2021, San Quentin xWays, is anything but your usual online slot.
Themed on one of America’s most notorious prisons, the game also features a freakishly high win potential of 150,000x bet, which is 10x more than Punk Rocker that has the same xWays mechanic. No wonder why they ask up to 2,000x your stake in a Feature Buy to get you into a bonus round that can land wins of that sort. Unsurprisingly, the game is already topping the developer’s big win charts with record-breaking 149,631x wins being triggered by lucky players within days after the launch!
The brutality of the San Quentin slot can be experienced from 12 January 2021. If you dare to give it a try, you cannot go wrong with the top licensed Nolimit City slot site that I’ve picked below. If you’re still undecided, then see the full review below.

Locker Enhancer Cells
Featuring a similar mechanic as in Punk Rocker’s bonus round, San Quentin’s Enhancer Cells are additional rows at the top and bottom of the five reels.
As you spin, they can reveal 1 of the 5:
- Top paying symbols — The inmates, which pay up to 5x for a full line
- The Wild – regular wild symbol that substitutes for regular symbols
- Razor Split – divides all symbols on the reel into two. Get two of such, at the top and bottom Enhancer Reel of one reel, to split the symbols twice!
- The xWays symbol – reveals a random 4-high symbol.
To unlock any such cells, you need at least one Bonus symbol on the reel. Unless you also get the third one, the Bonus symbols will turn Wild and unlock the Enhancer Cells on their reels.
Speaking of wilds, there are also Split Wilds, which also appear in the base game and will split all the regular symbols on the same reel each time they appear.
Lockdown Spins Bonus
Get 3-5 Bonus symbols and the game will transition into a Lockdown Spins bonus where the number of free spins and a special symbol multiplier will be randomly picked. That special multiplier can be applied to one of the inmate symbols or a Jumping Wild. You’ll get 1-3 Jumping Wilds, depending on how many Bonus symbols activated the feature.
Jumping Wilds switch positions after each spin. But unlike in Punk Rocker, their multipliers don’t reset. Better yet, the Jumping Wild multiplier will double each time the Razor Split symbol appears on the same reel. Just like that, it can grow all the way to x512!
It gets better because 3-5 Enhancer Cells will always be open during the Free Spins, depending on how many Jumping Wilds you have unlocked.
To re-trigger you need at least one bonus symbol, which only appears on reels with unopened cells. That will get you +1 Jumping Wild (for a maximum total of 3 in play), plus additional spins. While I haven’t had any success with the re-trigger, the bonus came up relatively often: every few hundred spins. Unless you want to trigger it organically — and don’t fall into the UK jurisdiction — then there’s a known shortcut for getting the bonus whenever you want – it’s called the Feature Buy.
Feature Buy
The Lockdown Spins bonuses don’t come cheap. In fact, Nolimit City have gone for the most expensive bonus buy feature ever. Free Spins in San Quentin with three Jumping Wilds will cost you a staggering 2,000x bet, almost tripling Deadwood’s previous record of 750x! That’s a minimum of $400 with a 20c stake, and a maximum of $7,200 unless the casino decides to increase the limit.
Free Spins with one or two Jumping Wilds, on the other hand, cost x100 and x400, respectively. When choosing between the three bonus buy options, note that the volatility decreases with each level.
Watch how the insane 149,631x win was triggered, using the most expensive feature buy:
Conclusion
Verdict
We always try to push the limits and find new ways of building new mechanics and portrait our slots – San Quentin xWays is no exception to this. You might see similarities with the smash hit Punk Rocker – gritty, mean and explosive. Welcome to San Quentin – make sure to choose your friends with care.

San Quentin is a shocking game on many levels. Line up the Split symbols with the Jumping Wild multipliers and you can hit up to €4,800,000 in a single spin! While that is highly unlikely to happen, there’s plenty more to enjoy when you feel like switching from cute slots, like Hellcatraz (pun intended) to something more hardcore. Noteworthy are the high average win frequency and duration of the free spins bonus, which oftentimes doesn’t disappoint with big win celebrations either. As a result, the fun value of the game is not compromised by its maximum win potential and risk.
When compared to its direct alternative, the Punk Rocker, then San Quentin is less dynamic and not as visually intriguing. But we are also dealing with different sort of punks in this game, to begin with, so the change in pace is justified. In the end, it will come down to personal preferences.
It’s a very strong start for Nolimit City in 2021 and a game which we’ll bound to see in big win videos throughout the year.
Have fun!
