King of Cats
King of Cats MegaWays Slot Review (Big Time Gaming)
King of Cats is Big Time Gaming’s first slot with the PlayerSelect mode.
It’s essentially two games in one, giving players a choice to play either the Lion or the Puma Game, on the fly. Depending on which game you choose, the game will switch to either Lion Wilds that can appear as 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 Wilds with multipliers up to x16 or Puma Wilds that can extend on up to three reels at once and have an x4 multiplier on them. That is in the base game because in the Free Spins the wilds take on a whole new dimension as each time they appear the multipliers will be increased, with no limit mentioned in the paytable! Oh, and it is also a MegaWays game with 117,649 ways to win, pushing the maximum win potential up to 56,620x stake.
King of Cats is available exclusively at LeoVegas till the end of May 2021, after which I will go live at other Big Time Gaming slot sites too.

PlayerSelect
PlayerSelect is a novel feature from the BTG studio that changes game modes in an instant, even during auto-spin. Unlike Lil’ Devil, the game now gives a choice to enter a different play mode also in the base game.
The only thing that will remain the same is the regular symbols with six royals and four high-paying gems that pay up to 25x per line, as well as regular wild symbols that appear only on reels 2—5.
Lion Game
Lion Wild only appears in the Lion Game. It’s an oversized wild symbol that can appear as a 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 mega wild. The bigger it is, the bigger the multiplier: x4, x9 and x16, respectively.
Puma Game
Puma Wild is only available in the Puma Game. Up to three can appear in one spin in the middle four reels and when they do, they will expand and raffle a multiplier between x2 and x4 for each one. Wins in this mode seem to be more frequent but also smaller as I haven’t come across that many wins in the base game that are above 50x bet compared to the Lion Game.
Lion Free Spins
Get 3-6 Scatters in the Lion Game to win 8, 12, 16 and 20 Free Spins, respectively. The bonus can be re-triggered with three or more Scatters, which will add +4 to +16 spins.
Like in every Free Spins bonus, re-triggers can be very valuable but here even more so because, with every Lion Wild you get, the multipliers increase by 2, 5 and 8, according to the symbol size. Hence, the initial x2, x5 and x8 multipliers will become x4, x10 and x16 after the first Lion Wild appearance. While the multipliers won’t go nearly as high as they do in Wild Flower, all it takes is some top-paying symbols at a high MegaWays count to win a fortune. I have found the wins to be quite consistently around 100x bet.
👍 Fact: The Lion Game has an RTP of 96.72% versus the Puma Game with an RTP of 96.70%. The difference is marginal though.
Puma Free Spins
For 3-6 Scatters in the Puma Game, you’ll win 15, 18, 21 and 24 Free Spins, respectively. These can also be re-triggered with three or more Scatters for 6, 9, 12 or 15 extra turns. The extra number of spins compared to the Lion feature implies that the feature is less volatile.
Like with Lion Wilds, the Puma Wild multipliers will also increase with each appearance by 1, 2 and 3. That will happen with each appearance and per reel only. You can keep track of those multipliers from the Puma Max Multipliers menu next to the reels.
Conclusion
So after a good couple of days’ play, I’m assuming my verdict won’t miss the mark of reality by a long shot. As is the case with most BTG slots, the base game is more or less mediocre but simple, with the main potential drivers being the themed wild features and the highly volatile MegaWays potential. However, the execution of the expanding or mega wild symbols makes the game more dramatic and that much less predictable compared to the regular progressive bonus multiplier like in Bonanza.
In King of Cats, all eyes are on one of the two bonuses that you choose to play. Although quite powerful on their own, it’s the number of free spins and extra time that will make all the difference by hopefully turning up the volume on the multipliers. Combined with the high-paying gems, these can generate some explosive wins which not many other Big Time Gaming slots can beat.
Overall, King of Cats is a well-made slot that takes a crafty approach at setting up the wilds and multipliers in combination with the good old MegaWays engine. It is reminiscent of Serengeti Kings from NetEnt, which is one of their better games, but on a different level as far as payout potential is concerned. As far as PlayerSelect goes then it’s a nice subtle feature that doesn’t add undue complexity to the game but certainly has more to it than meets the eye. It will be interesting to see where they will take it next.
The spins are playable on different NetEnt slots (Starburst, Mega Fortune Dreams, Jack and the Beanstalk, Warlords, Twin Spin, and Swipe and Roll). No wagering requirements. Use within 3 days. No maximum win limit. No code needed. New 18+ customers only. Play responsibly. Full T&C apply.
